The Open Classroom

Welcome to the Spring semester at the School of Social Science, Urban Affairs and Public Policy at Northeastern University. The spring features our third "Open Classroom" series "Economic Growth with Equity", led by Dean and Stearns Professor of Political Economy Barry Bluestone and Cathy Minehan, partner of Arlington Advisory Partners and former President of the Boston Federal Reserve Bank. The series runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. each Wednesday starting January 7th, and is free and open to the public. We invite you to learn more about this exciting program.

Boston Foundation releases CURP and Policy School report on the importance of manufacturing to state’s economy

Conventional wisdom may relegate manufacturing to the ash heap of earlier centuries, but new research undertaken by the Center for Urban and Regional Policy (CURP) and the School of Social Science, Urban Affairs, and Public Policy at Northeastern University and released today by the Boston Foundation establishes not only the importance of manufacturing as a potent part of the regional economy but its role as a catalyst for future growth.

David Soule
Associate Director, Michael and Kitty Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy

It is with great sadness that we write to tell you of the loss of one of our beloved employees, David Soule , the Associate Director of the Kitty and Michael Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy. David, surrounded by family and friends, lost his three-year battle with cancer on Monday, November 17th. In remembrance, the Spiritual Life Center will present a special tribute on December 12th, 2008 at 12:00 noon in the Sacred Space at the Spiritual Life Center, 201 Ell Hall.
